What Is Search Volume?
Search volume tells you how many times a keyword is searched on Google each month, on average. It's one of the most important metrics in keyword research because it shows actual demand. A keyword with 10,000 monthly searches has significantly more traffic potential than one with 100, though competition and intent also matter.
How to Use the Search Volume Estimator
Enter up to 10 keywords, one per line, and click Estimate. The tool pulls data from Google Ads to show monthly search volume, cost-per-click (CPC), and competition level for each keyword. Use this data to prioritise which keywords are worth targeting in your content and ad campaigns.
- Compare search volumes across similar keywords to find the highest-opportunity terms.
- Use CPC as a proxy for commercial intent — higher CPC usually means the keyword drives revenue.
- Check the monthly trend to spot seasonal keywords that peak at certain times of year.
- Combine volume data with difficulty scores to find the best balance of demand and competition.
Understanding the Data
Search volume numbers from Google Ads are rounded estimates, not exact counts. A keyword showing 1,000 searches might actually get anywhere from 800 to 1,200. The competition metric (0–1) reflects how many advertisers bid on the keyword, not organic ranking difficulty. CPC shows the average cost advertisers pay per click, which is a strong indicator of how valuable the traffic is.
