On-page SEO

Also called On-site SEO

On-page SEO is everything you control on the page itself: the content and how well it answers the query, the title and meta description, the heading structure, internal links, images and structured data. It is distinct from technical SEO, which concerns the site, and off-page SEO, which happens elsewhere.

What does on-page SEO actually include?

Content that matches what the searcher wanted, which is the part that carries most of the weight. A title tag that earns the click. A heading structure that reflects how the page is organised rather than where keywords fit. Internal links to and from the pages that belong near it. Descriptive alt text. Structured data where a page type genuinely supports it.

It does not include keyword density, exact-match repetition or hiding terms in the footer. Those have not worked for a decade and now read as spam signals.

Which on-page change moves the needle fastest?

Usually the title tag, because it affects click-through rate immediately rather than waiting on a ranking change. Google rewrites a majority of titles it is given, and rewrite rates are lowest when the title sits in the 51 to 60 character range, so length discipline is worth more than cleverness.

Internal linking is the second fastest, and the most commonly neglected. Pages buried three clicks deep with two inbound internal links behave very differently once they sit inside a proper cluster.

How does on-page SEO relate to AI answers?

Closely, and it has become more valuable rather than less. The things that make a page extractable by a language model are largely on-page: an answer near the top, question-shaped headings, short paragraphs, lists and tables, a real author. Good on-page work now pays into two channels instead of one.
